Hello,
Today's lesson is about airport design. Take a moment to look at the diagram below.
A) What kind of design is represented on the diagram. Summarise the facilities you see and write a short text of 50 words. Right click on the diagram to enlarge it, if you need.
B) Check out the website of Narita Airport in Tokyo, Japan:
http://www.narita-airport.jp/en/guide/map/index.html
Describe the design and its mode of operation in 30-50 words.
C) Check out http://planetolog.com/map-airport-list.php and check the design of the airports that are listed. Make some comments about the most common mode of operation of airports today.
Kind regards,
RV
Q (A): this picture is an example of centralized design/ layout airport, because it has just one terminal and three concourses. Centralized design/ layout airport means the airport that has one terminal. Dubai international airport DXB – Chicago airport ORD – and London Heathrow LHR are examples of centralized design airport. As I see in this picture, there are five runways which mean the strip of paved surface where aircraft take off and land. This airport also has three concourses which are the places that provide shops, restaurants and Duty- free shops for passenger while they are waiting for their flight before interring into the gate.
ReplyDeleteQ (B): this is an example of decentralized design/ layout airport. Decentralized deign means airport which has more than one terminal like as I am seeing in this picture. This decentralized design airport has two runways and two terminals. It also has a freight area which is for cargo and goods, maintenance area which means upkeep of the airport and finally the air traffic control tower which is the tower that gives and receives information from the aircraft.
Q (C): As I can see of this website is that most countries are going to be decentralized design of their airports which means that their airports will have more than one terminal that will help a lot of passengers to travel and won’t be much waiting in the terminal.
